Bi-Directional Video Downlinks / Uplinks and Directional Diversity Ground Receive System Captures HD Video of the Berlin Air Show, Troll and Axsys Provide HD Video Above Berlin.
Booth # 1137: Hall: 1

In what was an exciting display of live high-definition aerial footage, Troll Systems (Valencia CA) a world-wide leader in broadcast, public safety, law enforcement, military- airborne and ground microwave infrastructure, teamed with camera manufacturer Axsys to provide real-time images of the Berlin Air Show from a EuroCopter EC135.  The new system utilizes Hi-Def video transmission, on-board radio control and ground reception sites, Troll System’s unique steerable SkyLink airborne antenna and onboard C100 map based controller for high quality high-speed, bi-directional data transmission.Microwave video_ gound receiver_ HD video downlinks
Troll System's new design dramatically improves signal strength and range making it possible to increase the distances between ground receiving sites.  The increased range, in turn, decreases the amount of relay stations that are normally required between video transmission and receive sites, therefore reducing the total equipment requirements in the field.  The increased efficiency of this new system will subsequently reduce the overall costs for broadcasting in the private sectors as well as communication and reconnaissance requirements for the U.S. defense department and allied sovereign nations.
The High-Definition Video Communications Infrastructure Systems and the Product’s New Directional Diversity Receiver Systems are fully self-contained receive sites.

The ground system includes:

    • Six channel DVB-T diversity receiver.
    • Unique steerable high-gain directional antenna.
    • Five reconfigurable diversity panel antennas.
    • Fully automated SIT “Signal Integrity Tracking” – automatic tracking software
    • Self-contained system can be controlled from any remote location

The airborne system includes:

    • 10w high definition DVB-T transmitter
    • Unique steerable high-gain directional antenna.
    • Selectable OMNI antenna
    • Fully automated NavTrack telemetry based tracking software
    • Self-contained panel-mount controller with moving map display

Troll’s recent introduction of the directional diversity antennas has set new price, performance and reliability standards for ground receiving systems.  The combination of high-gain directional antennas provides long range, high bandwidth communication (up to 180km), overlapping diversity coverage (in excess of 360°) is primarily used for close-in communications where reflected microwave and obstructed line of sight interfere with traditional microwave reception.  The system’s Microwave downlinksRF combining technology makes receiving and reconfiguring video signals possible.  Additionally, users can elect to shoot in virtually any format from Standard Definition to High Definition and have that video data transmitted, received, decoded, and controlled from one central location or over an entire network.
The design enhancements of this new system have brought Troll systems to the forefront of the rotary, unmanned and fixed wing air to ground transmission and reception of broadcast quality video/data via microwave.  The introduction of diversity ground receiver, complemented by Troll’s extensive portfolio of remote control, master control and network communications packages now enable the delivery of end to end video communications anywhere in the world.  Troll Systems has more than twenty years of innovative product history guarantees users of this innovative system will receive:

  • Improved signal dynamics over greater distances
  • Easier and more flexible communications and control options
  • Intuitive touch screen/map based control of traditional microwave solutions.
  • Upgradeable software to extend the serviceable life of your equipment.
  • A lower overall cost of ownership throughout product life.

Troll Systems is engaged a number of military communications projects in addition to its leadership role in the commercial broadcast marketplace, including: UAV projects - long range HD video downlinks (Classified); Boeing Airborne Communications Projects (Classified); L3 Communications Projects (Classified); Scientific Research - Fort Irwin; General Dynamics, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Northrop, AT&T - mobile microwave tracking; Air to ground surveillance/reconnaissance – major US and international cities, police forces, military, public safety and border management; HD Camera Projects - US Military SOCOM, International Military, Police and Public Safety - L3.
