Production Planner/Material Control Specialist

Summary

  • Production Planner/Material Control Specialist is responsible for planning of raw materials, components, and finished goods. This position is accountable for coordinating the material requirements planning in support of production schedules for existing and new products and design changes. In addition, this position is responsible for developing systems and processes to minimize raw material inventories while reducing purchasing costs and maximizing customer service levels.

Responsibilities

  • Runs and supports MRP and maintains system planning data (materials/production) and work schedules with outside suppliers.
  1. Analyzes forecasts, actual demand, schedules, and inventory exercises judgment to influence manufacturing and buying decisions.
  1. Generates and releases purchase requisitions for procurement of required materials through approved/qualified suppliers for raw materials and components.
  1. Plans and schedules workflow for each department and operation according to manufacturing sequences and lead times.
  1. Creates, schedules, monitors, and maintains work orders throughout the manufacturing process from start to completion.
  1. Prioritizes, schedules, and expedites the delivery of raw materials and components to meet promised delivery dates and prevent stock shortages.
  1. Reviews engineering documentation involving Bill of Materials (BOMs) and drawing changes; reviews, verifies, and requests BOM modifications as required.
  • Produces material planning inventory reports for Inventory/Purchasing Manager; develop reports that measure performance and drive change throughout the supply chain.
  • Confers with department supervisors and other business units to determine status of assigned projects, work on cost reduction initiatives, and continue improvement of processes and systems.

Qualifications

  1. Minimum of Associate’s degree in a business-related discipline or an equivalent combination of education plus five years of related Production Planning/Scheduling experience.
  2. Proven analytical and problem solving skills.
  1. Excellent communication skills.
  2. Demonstrated ability handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
  3. Capacity to understand and work with cross functional areas such as Program Management, Sales, Shipping, Customer Service, Purchasing.
  1. Demonstrated knowledge and capability with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
  1. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and report writing
  2. Certifications in production and inventory management (CPIM); certification in supply chain management (CSCP); and/or APICS Certification in areas of Scheduling and Planning preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Able to work in a manufacturing plant environment
